The Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation was formed in 2010 and was born from a vision to make Barbados “The #1 Entrepreneurial hub in the World”.

Led by Peter Boos, Chairman Emeritus of Ernst & Young Caribbean and a group of local and international entrepreneurs called the E-Team, the goal of the Foundation is to foster an holistic approach to entrepreneurship in Barbados, that will enable the achievement of the Island’s potential as a global business hub.

The BEF is a non-profit association. The work of the Foundation is almost entirely carried out by volunteers in partnership with sponsors, the public and private sector and the social partners. The BEF is managed by a Board of Directors and a smaller management committee and relies on contributions from corporate citizens, private individuals, the diplomatic community and Board members to fund all its activities.

The BEF was established with the support of many stakeholders including our late Prime Minister, David Thompson. The Honourable Freundel Stuart has also voiced his support for the BEF and was a feature speaker at the Foundation’s Annual Summit in November 2012.

The BEF realizes that collaboration with relevant partners is critical to maximize effort and to avoid duplication. The BEF has partnered with professional associations, the Cave Hill School of Business, relevant government departments and representatives of labour.

The work of the Foundation is centred on growing sustainable entrepreneurship through advancing key areas that have proved to be the factors for a successful entrepreneurship eco-system. The focus areas are organized around five Pillars – Finance, Government Policy, Education and Skills, Business Mentorship and Business Facilitation.

The Success of the Foundation will be measured by:

  • GDP per capita doubled from US$13,000 to US$26,000 by 2020
  • Barbados ranked among the top 20 most competitive countries in the world – 44th to < 20th

Simpsons MotorsSimpson Motors

Simpson Motors was founded in 1972 by businessman Kyffin Simpson. The company expanded quickly, initially through the success of the Suzuki line, followed eventually by acquisition of the Mercedes franchise. During this period the com- pany earned an enviable reputation for exceptional after-sales service, which is maintained to this day.

Over the years, the company has added a host of popular passenger car franchises and has expanded its focus to include a line of commercial vehicles and equipment. The addition of Simpson Finance and Simpson Motors Used Cars then created new dimensions to the service offered.

With a well-stocked parts department and skilled, professional mechanical and body repair workshops, Simpson Motors can be now considered the all-inclusive package for automotive needs.

Our Missions

  • School enterprise competition becomes annual event

Our Vision

The founders of the BEF were driven by the belief that Barbados can become the global hub for entrepreneurship in the world by 2020.  The BEF believes that the achievement of this Vision will lead to the creation of enormous opportunity and a better life for all Barbadians.

The realization of this Vision requires an outward looking mindset and a firm belief in the attractions of Barbados as a hub for enterprise. Barbados has long out-performed many other countries in the region in the areas of education, human capital, quality of life and social services, and this solid foundation can form the basis for a transformation to a genuinely proentrepreneurship environment, through dedicated all-sector collaboration.  It also requires close, active partnership with government and all stakeholders and a universal commitment to embracing global competition and to lowering  unnecessary barriers to doing business in Barbados.

The BEF is committed to this Vision which is demonstrated in the active involvement of a large group of volunteers who work together to ensure that the Foundation’s overarching goals are achieved.
